Gábor Prószéky

Gábor Prószéky is a mathematician specializing in software design and a linguist, a member of Academia Europaea, and a Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). He currently serves as a scientific advisor at the Research Centre for Linguistics, now part of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), where he served as Director General from 2017 to 2026. He is also Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Information Technology and Bionics of Pázmány Péter Catholic University (PPKE).

After graduating from university, he spent five years at the Institute for Musicology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, where he worked with László Dobszay on exploring the possibilities of using computers in Gregorian chant research. As early as the 1980s, he was also investigating the relationship between artificial intelligence and music.

He was one of the founders of MorphoLogic, established in 1991 as Hungary’s first company specializing in language technology research and development, and served as its director for more than 25 years. He has led around 30 Hungarian and international R&D projects in computational linguistics and has been a member of numerous Hungarian and international scientific bodies. In addition to more than 200 scientific publications, he has authored three books on the computational processing of human languages.

In recognition of his work, he received the Széchenyi Prize in 2000. His other honors include the László Kalmár Award (1995), IT Manager of the Year (2002), the Sámuel Brassai Award (2005), a Special Award for IT Educator of the Year (2009), the Dennis Gabor Award (2010), the Prima Award (2023), and the Saint Joseph Calasanz Commemorative Medal (2025).
