Emőke Solymosi Tari
Emőke Solymosi Tari (PhD) is a music historian who has been teaching general music history at the Liszt Academy of Music for nearly a quarter of a century. She has published five books on the composer László Lajtha’s body of work. In addition to numerous studies and articles, she has also created radio and television programs and organized several successful exhibitions.
She curates and hosts concerts and complex artistic series, primarily in collaboration with the Saint Stephen Philharmonic Orchestra. One of her most renowned projects is the highly successful Pastorale family series, launched in late 1997, which has held over 270 performances to date. The series currently takes place in the ceremonial hall of the Pesti Vigadó.
Since 2011, she has also curated and hosted a second series titled On a Voyage of Discovery. Under this program, 400 live productions (and three films) have been realized. The On a Voyage of Discovery series is considered unique both nationally and internationally, as it offers valuable, complex art programs annually to all students (approximately 11,000–12,000 each year) in Budapest’s 14th district, catering to two different age groups.
She has presented at numerous national and international conferences, covering topics in musicology as well as music and arts education. Since 2014, she has been a member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and serves as the head of its Department of Art Theory.
Her accolades include the László Lajtha Award (2002), the Zugló Award for Cultural Advancement (2005), the Bence Szabolcsi Award (2012), the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit (2013), the Saint Ladislaus Award (2022), and Hungary’s highest scientific honor, the Széchenyi Prize (2023).
