János Mácsai
Music historian János Mácsai graduated from the Budapest Academy of Music in 1987 with a degree in musicology, and in 1993 with a degree in music direction. He worked at the Institute for Musicology of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences until 2000, since then he has been a freelance music historian, critic, and instrument restorer.
He regularly publishes music-themed articles, concert and record reviews. He founded the Association of Instrument Makers and launch the magazine Hangszervilág (World of Musical Instruments), and in the 1990s he directed gramophone and television music recordings. He regularly participates in the music programs of the Hungarian Radio as a presenter and critic. He made television programmes and solo portrait movies (about pianist Lívia Rév, the Angelica Girls’ Choir, etc.). Since 2003, he has taught at the University of Theater and Film Arts, the University of Fine Arts, and the Academy of Music.
