Róbert Gallyas-Lakatos
Róbert Gallyas-Lakatos (Csengő) was born in Budapest in 1988, into a renowned musical dynasty. He began his studies at the age of 6 at the Aladár Tóth Music School and later became a student at the Béla Bartók Conservatory of Music. Initially, he learned his instrument under the guidance of his father, followed by pedagogue Kálmánné Kovács. Later, within the genre of restaurant and bar piano, he studied with excellent musicians Zoltán Szirmai and Artúr Berki. By the age of 15, he was already performing in the hospitality sector, playing with various dance bands.
In 2008, he performed on the Costa Fortuna cruise ship under a six-month contract. Throughout his career, he has accompanied outstanding artists and performers, such as Kossuth Prize-winning Margit Bangó, world-renowned violin virtuoso Roby Lakatos, Attila Kökény, Juli Horányi, Orsi Kozma, Ádám Szabó, Curtis, Enikő Détár, Róbert Koltai, Kátya Tompos, Sára Herrer, Giani Lincan—a Romanian cimbalom artist—and the Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra.
He has given concerts in several cities in Italy and Greece, as well as in Croatia, the Netherlands, Serbia, Germany, Romania, and has also fulfilled numerous engagements in Hungary. While he plays all musical styles, jazz is the closest to his heart, with his piano playing rooted in the fast-paced, improvisational Bebop style, though he also enjoys exploring the world of modern jazz. He looks up to seven-time Grammy Award-winning jazz pianist Oscar Peterson, world-renowned jazz pianist Michel Petrucciani, as well as Hungarian musicians Róbert Szakcsi Lakatos, Róbert Botos, Kálmán Oláh, and Artúr Berki as role models.
He placed 3rd in the National Bar Pianist Competition in 2024.
Currently, he is a member of Swing à la Django, an innovative band with a unique instrumental lineup.
